Guyana 2011: And we’re off … (the grid)

Guyana 2011: And we’re off … (the grid)

It was a long journey from Boston to Georgetown , Guyana that took over 32 hours. But this adventurer has learned from years of journeys that a rocky start bodes well for a grand adventure in the months to come. My impromptu layover in NYC meant that I got a chance to spend the night with OG alumnus Andy, one of last years West Africa Trip Leaders who not only gave me a beer and a bed for the night but also loaded up my iPod with new tunes for this summers travels. They will definitely come in handy on the 20 hour bus ride I am taking into the interior tonight.

I will arrive in Lethem tomorrow where I will be meeting up with Chris for 3 weeks of Precon before the team arrives in June.

I am excited to get back into the Rupununi where the anteaters roam and the fish are plentiful. After lyming (taking it easy) for the afternoon easting Brazilian roast meat, Chris and I will be visiting our good friends in Yupukari at Rupununi Learners this weekend to finalize arrangements for the volunteer stay.

My contact number is 011 + (592) 684 8015. I will have service in Georgetown and Lethem but not in any of the villages. If I don’t pick up try sending an email to jo@operationgroundswell.com. In Yupukari they have some wifi but no cell phone service so I can answer emails from there.

Cheers from the Caribbean coast,

Jo Guyana Trip Leader 2011
